Linda McCown, 70, of Springfield, died on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
She was born on March 18, 1953, in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of William E. and Mary E. (Downard) McCown.
Linda graduated from Pittsburgh's Mt. Lebanon High School. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree in medical technology from Penn State University, her master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and her Ph.D. from the University of St. Louis. Linda was a professor and department head at the University of Illinois. She was a member of Springfield's Cherry Hills Church, and the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science – Illinois. Linda enjoyed singing in the gospel choir, loved to travel on Road Scholars tours (Greece, Hawaii, Israel), whale watching, and tennis. She was an avid Nittany Lion fan. Above all else, she was devoted to caring for her mother.
She was preceded in death by her father.
